Hi,
One of my favorite at home rituals to deal with Sun Tan, Dullness and/ or Scaly Dry skin.
Here I share my process and products that can be used for effective skin polishing at home.
Step 1 : Bleach
  • This is an optional step. But its is very effective while dealing with Sun Tan.
  • If you haven’t used body bleach earlier then you can either skip this step or do a patch test before.
  • It is advisable to apply bleach on skin which is free from any oil or cream and dust and grim.
  • Choosing bleach is a personal preference. Prepare as per instruction on the pack and apply a thick layer on areas dealing with sun tan.
  • Bleach should not  be applied for more than 10 mins. 10 mins are enough to reduce the Tan. Must not be applied on cuts or bruises. 
  • Remove Bleach with a wet wash cloth.

Step 2: Scrub

  • This is the most important step of body polishing.
  • Choose between a home made scrub or ones available in market.
  • Scrub slowly using circular motions.
  • Scrub atleast for 15 – 20 mins.
  • Choosing a scrub should be according to skin type. Their are many scrub available in market like St. Ives scrub,Biotique, Soulflower, Oxy Glow

Home- Made body scrubs recipes:

Recipe 1 :
  • 1/2 cup Sugar,
  • 1/2 Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 spoon Olive/ coconut oil
Recipe 2:
  • 1/2 cup Baking Soda
  • 1 Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 spoon Olive/ Coconut Oil
Mix the above ingredients and scrub the entire skin. Take atleast 10 mins to scrub the skin esp concentrate on areas like elbows, knees, knuckles, ankles and neck. These are the areas we usually avoid. Back is also the most neglected part. I personally use a natural loofah to exfoliate my back to get rid of dead skin and pigmentation.
If Lemon Juice doesnt suits you or you have extremely sensitive skin the use normal water instead.
Step 4: Rinse
  • Rinse the scrub with warm water.
  • Do not use soap.
  • Warm water will help the essential oil seep inside the skin better.
  • Dab the extra water from skin.

Step 5: Massage
  • Massage your favourite cream or oil for few minutes.
  • Add few drops of essential oils to them to make them even more relaxing.
  • Massage atleast for 5 mins.

Step 6: Hot Towel Wrap
  • Keep 2 Body towel handy.
  • Dip them into warm water and wring the extra water out. and wrap yourself.
  • Do this for 5 – 10 mins. Change the towel when it feels cool.
  • This is an optional step but has great benefits.
  • Take care while wringing the warm water.

Step 7: Body Pack
  • Same as scrub this is also important step.
  • There are great variety of packs available in market. I even use face packs as body packs. They work wonder too.
Body packs can be made at home too using some simple ingredients like :
  1. Choose One ingredient each from following parts to make a pack for yourself.
  2. Natural ingredients are safe and there is no set combination.
  • Part 1: Oatmeal, Besan, Fuller’s Clay.
  • Part 2: Curd, Honey, Milk Cream, Aloe Vera Gel, Fresh Fruit pulps like Avocado, Tomato, Papaya or Pineapple, Carrot,
  • Part 3: Orange ring, Lemon Rind, Citrus fruit juice, rose petals, sandalwood powder, turmeric, Few drops of essential oils like Tea tree, Eucalyptus, Lemon, Germanium etc.

Step 8: Rinse
Same as above Step 4.

Step 9: Relax
Relaxation is a key to a good home spa. Follow the rinse with a moisturizer of your choice Take time to relax after the spa.. sip in some warm tea and read your fav book .. or just lie down and take a nap.
This Body Polishing method is very effective, I usually do it every two to three weeks to get rid of sun tan and dry flaky skin ( I use body bleach only once a month or after an intense tan). If I am in hurry then I prefer using packaged products from market and when I have time I prefer using Home Made stuff.
